Welcome to the first bed-time story event!

Being read stories by my dad is one of my fondest memories as a child. Cuddled up in bed, I listened with rapt attention to Norse Myths, Russian Fairy Tales, the stories of Hans Christian Anderson and others. Later, as I have been re-reading these stories, I am appreciating the insights they offer into human motivation. Imagination, I have often found, speaks more truthfully than science about the workings of the heart and mind.

We begin with a potluck dinner at 7pm. Please bring a nourishing dish for six.

Those unable to make it at 7, be sure to here by 7:50pm for the beginning of the story.

Consider bringing a pillow and blanket to cuddle up with on the soft floor.

I will be reading two stories, one Russian and one from India. After each story, there will be a chance for us to share any insights the story gave us about ourselves. Many of these stories pre-date formal religion, and so were not only used to entertain, but to impart knowledge about our relationship with ourselves and the world.

The evening will conclude at 10pm.

I'd also like to hear if you have a favorite story your remember and if you have a copy of it.

First as a mother I enjoyed reading bed-time stories to my son and now as a Childcare Provider I enjoy reading stories to my charges. I look forward to reading, listening and cuddling. This sounds like fun.

Who attended?

    •  It was wonderful to cuddle with some people I knew and some I didn't. It was also very enlightening to hear Dane share his perspective of the tales that were read. I look forward to the next meeting and perhaps reading a tale or two myself.

I appreciate everyone who came, brought good food and joined me in reading stories. I look forward to seeing you in July.
